Registering your defibrillator (AED)
Congratulations on being prepared to save a life with the purchase of a life-saving defibrillator. Whether it’s for your workplace, school or college, public building or even a community area, it’s a fantastic way to be ready to give life-saving support in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
Having this kit available means that anyone can access it to help administer a potentially life-saving shock to restart someone’s heart in the event of an emergency situation. It can take around 11 minutes on average for emergency support to arrive on scene, and for every minute someone is suffering an SCA, their chances of survival drop by approx. 10% so every second counts. Knowing where to find the nearest defibrillator could really be a matter of life or death.
According to the National Institute for Clinical Excellence, the UK survival rate for out-of-hospital cardiac arrests is 8%. Use of a defibrillator can increase this to a survival rate of 32%. However, if a defibrillator is used along with CPR within five minutes of someone collapsing, you can increase their survival rate to 74%.
Help raise awareness of the fact you have a defibrillator on site by completing these few steps:
